Rep. David Thomas Announces Re-Election for Ohio House District 65

Jefferson- State Representative David Thomas has filed to run for re-election to serve another term as State Representative for Ohio’s 65^th District. Thomas is currently in his first term as State Representative and says he is running to continue the success of his first year in office serving the residents of portions of Trumbull and Ashtabula Counties and push for affordability in Ohio.

“I promised the voters my first term would be delivering on property tax reform, transparency, and good customer service to taxpayers,” said Rep. Thomas. “We have delivered on each of these with strong results and want to continue this service to the people of the 65^th District.”

Thomas had seven bills signed into law in his first year, a record for freshmen lawmakers and ahead of most experienced members. He also has an eighth bill that passed the Ohio House and now is in the Ohio Senate and has introduced 35 bills, which is the third most in the Legislature.   

Included in his passed legislation are five property tax reform measures which have been the point of much attention over the past year and according to Thomas are the most impactful property tax measures passed in roughly 50 years and will help every property owner in Ohio. Additionally, Thomas passed HB 43 to assist Lakeside High School seniors in graduation following the collapsing of their high school roof in 2024, HB 64 which lowers the age for Senior Discount Hunting and Fishing Licenses to 65, and HB 476 to legalize online charitable raffles.

“I am running for re-election to keep achieving successes for our taxpayers in Ohio especially focusing on making life more affordable,” said Rep. Thomas. “This includes my goals for more tax reform legislation, decreasing government spending, pushing for needed improvements at the state and local level for services, and working on the things people actually want done, what is impacting their wallets that needs corrected.”

Thomas also points to the success of budget efforts to bring tax dollars back to the 65^th District. He worked with the Lake to River Delegation in the Ohio Budget to secure $500,000 for Mosquito Lake, $2 Million for the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, and $500,000 for a study for a natural gas pipeline along State Route 11 for Ashtabula and Trumbull Counties.

“The pipeline down Route 11 would be huge,” said Rep. Thomas. “We are trying to make up for lost time to get more Ohio energy to consumers to lower costs and reverse the course of the last Presidential Administration of ending pipelines and closing power plants.”

Thomas believes a pipeline down Route 11 could help fuel businesses along the corridor and get natural gas directly to homeowners. The investment follows a legislative priority of his to increase energy production which he hopes decreases the cost of energy and inflation.

“I was elected to go to Columbus and serve. That means getting results and doing the most I can for our people. It has been a blessing in my first year to be able to achieve for our residents what we have done, and I am looking forward to more successes because we are far from done on the needed improvements for our taxpayers,” said Rep. Thomas.  

Thomas serves as Vice Chairman for the House Ways and Means Committee, and a member of the Energy Committee, Public Insurance and Pensions, and Arts, Athletics, and Tourism Committee. His campaign has reported just over $100,000 in donations for 2025.
